Las Vegas Trip Report

We ran away to Vegas in early October for a 3 night stay to escape the gloomy, rainy fall that was hitting Vancouver hard. Howie has been multiple times whereas it was my first time going. It had never been one of our “Must Travel To” cities but we had a few comped nights at the Wynn and decided to go for that reason.

Shake Shack in Vegas
WHERE THE GOOD FOOD AT?

I never realized it but all the cities we travelled to like Portland or Tokyo were foodie cities, meaning the food there is good. I couldn’t fathom a city where all the food we ate would be subpar and then we went to Vegas. We found the food to be overly bland even in restaurant that had good reviews online. Honestly, the best food we ate might have been Shake Shack because it tasted the same as it did in other cities. We ate there twice because it was a reasonably priced option and we knew what to expect.

GET THOSE STEPS IN

I thought this would be a relaxing vacation but I was pooped by the time we went to bed each night. The Vegas Strip doesn’t seem big until you have to walk it. I checked and we averaged about 30, 000 steps each day. Howie wore sandals while I wore my Keds. He was the one with foot pain at the end of the trip and I was still doing fine. Our word of advice is to pack comfy shoes because you will be walking a lot.

We were so sore from all the walking and wanted to find an easy (and cheap!) remedy. So we went to Lush (there’s 3 locations on the Strip) and bought bath bombs. We took advantage of our hotel’s bath tub and had a nice soak to relax our tired muscles.

GET THE MYVEGAS APP

We were looking for ways to save on this trip to Vegas and we stumbled upon the MyVegas app. This mobile game is owned by MGM Resorts and by playing, you can earn rewards towards purchases in Vegas. It’s free to play and for this trip we earned the following rewards:

  • BOGO sandwiches at Carnegie Deli
  • Free cheesecake at Carnegie Deli
  • 50% off Cirque du Soleil tickets
  • BOGO tickets to the shark reef at Mandalay Bay
  • Free play tickets for games at Circus Circus
  • BOGO breakfast brunch at Luxor

We probably saved closet to $200 USD with this game and it was after a week of casual playing. Not bad!

CONCLUSION

We’re foodies (hence this blog!) so we were very disappointed about the quality of food here. This wasn’t our favorite trip that we’ve taken together but our visit was contained to mostly the Vegas Strip. Maybe if we ventured out for some hikes or museum visits we would appreciate Vegas more.
